Recognition.

Covering my eyes wasn't enough. I'd have to hide behind the couch or leave the room entirely during the most excruciating moments of Basil Fawlty on Fawlty Towers. Cringing, weeping with paralytic embarassment, I would giggle until I could scarcely breathe. Luckily, this would generally not attract attention due to the aforementioned herd of wild donkeys.

"The Germans" is one of two times I have wet my pants watching a TV comedy.

The other time was in "Some Mothers Do 'ave 'em". I was, obviously, young at the time, and maybe had incomplete control of my bladder.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Oh, "The Germans" was the worst of them all!

"Betty...."
Gosh, I can almost smell the cut grass of childhood. Pushbikes on the corner. Long shadows, The Coming On of the Streetlights. Time to go home for tea and TV.

Can you hear the mashed potato landing on the plates?
